　　Regulators in the United States have ruled that it is safe to eat genetically-modified salmon,the first time anywhere in the world that GM animals had been approved for humanconsumption. The US Food and Drug Administration said the salmon have passed all regulatoryrequirements. The fish has extra genes which make it grow more quickly. A Canadian studyfound GM-fish could potentially cross breed but the company which created the salmon saidany risks were negligible. Alison Van Eenennaam, is an animal geneticist in the US. Theproposal is to raise those fish in land-based tanks in Panama, so basically they will have nocontact with the ocean. And additionally they are all female and triploid sterile.
