　　This week a massive quake off the coast of Chilekilled six and forced hundreds of thousands toevacuate in fear of a tsunami.

　　The French team's small demo with acoustic waves in soil worked, deflecting the incomingenergy around the target area.

　　That research is in the journal Physical Review Letters.
